A bit about the writer.

I won't pretend someone else is writing this bit, who better to do it than I? I'm a young man born of beginnings humble enough to make me resourceful, and with roots challenged enough to gird my pride in family name and community. I love my hometown; San Diego, CA - the Southeast to be precise. Couldn't have picked a better place to be raised and mentored.

I've been a storyteller for a long time.

The narratives featured in the House of Adamah series have been with me for years. It took me over 14 and a half years to write Them That Are Called. I've built this world from dust and formed these characters - manifested on the page, and transliterated from the script of mine own mind - from a whelming well of inspirations. I continue to sharpen my craft with each passing day; we'll always be students, even as teachers.

I'm a graduate of San Diego State University, where I was a student of the Africana Studies, Political Science and Religious Studies programs (#Aztecs4Life). My graduate experience thereafter, as a student of other universities, has been one of many tastes, none of which are worth mentioning.

My family is strong. Before I was a father and a husband, I was a brother. I'm the youngest son of two and we've a sister who stands, in age, between us. I come from two loving and encouraging parents, though only my father still lives. God rest her soul.

I relocated to Los Angeles some time ago, it's home now and it has served as my pivot for nearly all of my world travels. In full, I've spent time that I'll not soon forget in 22 countries (of course, I counted - who doesn't?). I lived in Oakland a while, and rented an apartment in Tuscany (Firenze to be specific) for a short time, with the expectation of completing Them That Are Called - which was then only a piece of what it is and was being built under a different title. Instead, the story grew legs while I was there and expanded quite a bit. I didn't complete it until I returned home. As a big fan of Tolkien, I also spent the better part of a day writing at a table in the back of The Eagle & Child Pub, opposite one of my best friends (s/o Kenny!). I don't think I can live well without adventure, which is why I've journeyed so far.

I journey still.

If you're asking, either audibly or someplace within where the premier audience is you, then I'll answer. I write because it makes me content. Because these stories visit me and excite me and I cannot help myself but to pen them. Because the space designated for Black stories is growing but still juvenile, when contrasted. And because I hold with some clear degree of certainty that if there is a calling on my life, then this is it. I'll write until the day I die, come whatever may.

All in all, it is my sincere hope that you, as well as others, will enjoy these narratives as much as I do. And if you do, then I am, or will be, most grateful.
